http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_rubbing_alcohol_kill_germs
-In this link, it says that rubbing alcohol does not kill bacteria although it only stops their reproduction systems. The alcohol will only destroy 70-90& of the bacteria's cell wall, thus making them unable to reproduce. So, it only discontinues the growth of the bacteria's population. The research was conducted in CDC or Control Disease Center. It is an organization that deals with medical questions and answers them accurately.

-This is one of the parts of the link I had posted:
"Ethyl alcohol, more frequently known as grain alcohol, works as an antiseptic by coagulating protein, the primary material that makes up cells. Although alcohol cannot coagulate every single cell, it functions well to inhibit the growth and reproduction of many microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses."

-In this link, you will find an experiment conducted by a student named Dalainee V. Her results show that both 70% isopropyl alcohol and 62% ethyl alcohol based hand sanitizer did not kill 99.9% of bacteria but only reduced 88% of the sample bacteria for the isopropyl alcohol, and 62% ethyl alcohol based hand sanitizer only reduced 83% of the sample bacteria.
